Alexis Xenophontos, born in 1967, is Director of Marcuard Trust (Cyprus) Ltd and Board Member and Managing Director of Marcuard Cyprus Limited (a regulated Cyprus Investment Firm (CySec license no.: 131/11)), Cyprus. Alexis has worked professionally in the Financial Services sector for more than 20 years mainly in London and Zurich.
Work experience
More recently, Alexis was appointed to the senior management position of COO for the Barclays Wealth (biggest Wealth Manager in the UK) Investments & Products Office interfacing to the front office and managing all associated sales and product development / management and distribution risks across multiple jurisdictions. During such tenor, Alexis also took the lead in Barclays Wealth’s drive towards the creation of a totally integrated and globally expanded Investments & Products Office capable of delivering innovative, institutionally oriented and solutions-based propositions to clients. This was following 8 years prior experience with UBS Global Wealth Management (biggest Global Wealth Manager) where he held the position of Head of Quality Assurance and Risk Management of their Portfolio Strategy and Construction team which covered all main Global Investment Management offerings (both Relative and Absolute return product types). During his tenor at UBS Alexis helped fully restructure the Investment Solutions area covering all wealth management products of UBS and launch their Multi-Manager offerings. Prior to UBS Alexis had worked as a Trader in syndicated loans and trade finance paper at a London listed financial boutique, as a Chartered Accountant and Auditor for 6 years with firms such as Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) covering the Financial Services Sector and as a Regulatory Advisor in Debt Capital Markets at the London Stock Exchange.
Education
Alexis is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate (BEng) of the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London and an Associate of the City & Guilds Institute (ACGI). He trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with ICAEW. He also holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France.
He is fluent in English and Greek.
